What's good ya'll?! Happy December! Wow, can you believe that it is the end of 2023 already? The year really flew by! The month of December is my third favorite time of year lol. I hate the cold but ya girl loves her some Christmas! There are many reasons why I love this time of year, one being, Christmas Music! I really love some good Christmas tunes both new and old, so I was super excited to see that THE VOCAL BIBLE herself FINALLY RELEASED a Christmas album ya'll!!!
I don't know about you, but I have been a Brandy fan since the beginning!! I know almost every song by heart lol and we haven't been blessed with a Brandy album since her 2020 project, B7. Released under Motown Records, Christmas with Brandy brought back all the old school R&B feels. Now I'mma keep it real with ya'll, you know I always do. I did not like the B7 project like that. I was so excited to hear a new Brandy album and instead of giving herself she gave SZA. It was weird and not a fan. But this album made up for whatever that album was trying to do.
Now, I'm not sure if you are aware of how a Christmas album is structured, but typically the album will consist of a mix of covers and original holiday tracks; I'm a fan of both! I couldn't see myself enjoying a Christmas album full of original tracks. I loved Brandy's version of Santa Baby and The Christmas Song. Someday at Christmas was cute, but in my head that will always be a Jackson 5 bop you feel me? lol If you are someone who doesn't enjoy the classic Christmas tunes too much then you'll enjoy original tunes like Christmas Gift, in which Brandy shares the mic with her daughter, Sy'Rai. You're so blown away not just by the vocals of the young songstress but also of her ability to keep up with her legendary momma.
Christmas Party for Two is a sultry, sexy bop. A little different pace for Brandy and the album honestly, and it was very beautifully executed. Then you have Christmas Everyday, another favorite track of mine. It's upbeat, fun and it just sounds like it belongs in every holiday movie this season.
I will forever be a huge Brandy fan, she laid the foundation for my childhood from music to television and movies, I've always been a huge supporter and I'm so glad to see Brandy back in the studio. You know so often we are quick to retire our black entertainers and I really would like to do a deep dive as to why that is. We hang on to their old material and wish they would come back and then when they do we hate the new material and want the old. Now I'm not saying to like everything just because this is one of your favorite artists, but give new things they are trying a chance. You never know you may enjoy it!
