THE VINCE STAPLES SHOW

Updated: Aug 28

What's Good Y'all !!! Who TF is Vince Staples?! lol Not only is that a question asked throughout the show but you might be asking yourself that right now lol. Here's the thing, I know of Vince Staples but I don't know about him for real lol. I do know that he's a rapper who's been dabbling in acting and I am referring to his most recent role on ABC's 'Abbott Elementary,' in which he played Maurice, a short-term love interest for Quinta Brunson's character, Janine. I instantly fell in love with him and his character, however, I had yet to dip into his discography and now with his new show on Netflix, I feel like I've been missing out on someone great...

If you are still unsure who tf Vince Staples is, no worries I got you. Born in Compton, Ca but raised in Long Beach, CA. The 30-year old rapper, singer, actor and voice actor, is just getting started! Staples first became known for his association with California-based alternative hip-hop collective Odd Future (and this is partly why I say I know of him but I don't know of him lol). Did you also know that Vince was in the movie 'DOPE'? Around the same time he also did some voice acting for the animated film Mutafukaz, became the brand ambassador for Sprite and partnered with Acura on a launch campaign for the next-gen Acura Integra. In 2023, with five albums already under his belt, Vince seems to put music on the back burner, he's featured in the reboot of White Men Can't Jump, along with his cameo in Abbott Elementary (as mentioned earlier) and as of February 2024, all five episodes of The Vince Staples Show has been available to stream on Netflix.

The climb to success is not overnight, at least that's what they say, and it's a perfect way to sum up The Vince Staples Show. If you have been having serious withdrawals of tuning in to FX to watch the latest episode of Atlanta, The Vince Staples Show just might be a temporary cure. With this show we are now looking at the life of a rapper who is sort of famous, but not really. The casting is perfect! Vince Staples plays himself...sort of lol (I'll get to that later). The iconic Vanessa Bell Calloway plays his momma and she is hilarious! You also get a cameo from Myles Bullock, Andrea Ellsworth, Christopher Myer, Patrick Walker and Rick Ross! The cast is full of talent and every episode will leave you laughing and wanting more.

Now, I want to take the time to acknowledge those who are fans of Vince Staples, cuz I know y'all exist! It is due to his dedicated fandom that he's reaching new heights! In past interviews Vince Staples has expressed that part of the rapper stereotype is not him at all, he follows a very straight edge lifestyle saying no to drugs and alcohol, however Staples has been upfront regarding his involvement with street gangs during his childhood, and is involved with speaking to the youth in his community about the dangers of the gang lifestyle. With that being said, it is his portrayal of self that comes off a little different. It looks like Vince is one foot in and one foot out of the culture. Within each episode you get different trials and tribulations Staples goes through not only as a black man in Long Beach, CA but as an artist, as someone in the Black Community who made it and is seen as a role model. It's a different level and a lot of responsibility and I think this show does an excellent job of portraying it as such while also making you laugh.

Life is also random as hell. One day you wake up thinking things are going to go one way and then a whole bunch of nonsense ensues, however at the end of each day Vince goes home to his girlfriend as if nothing happened at all lol its low key genius. I could go on and on about this show but I would rather refrain from giving a ton of spoilers, you really should just watch it yourself and then run back here to tell me your thoughts! Enjoy ya'll!
